About Me

As far as dyslexia is concerned I wear several hats.

I am dyslexic. Dyslexia was hardly heard of while I went through school and I got where I did through grit determination and constantly battling against own low self esteem. I was identified when I was in my forties when I was at University training to be a dyslexia specialist.

I have one son with Asperger syndrome who I'm very proud of having achieved a degree in Business administration a few years ago. My dyslexic daughter has also graduated from university with degrees in Education and Social Inclusion. My other dyslexic son is in his final year at university. Getting them to this point has not been easy. I am very proud of their achievements. My support for them is ongoing.

I am a teacher. I have taught children with SEN since the 70's. Following my children being identified as dyslexic I retrained to become a specialist dyslexia teacher. I wanted to do something to prevent other children going through the traumas of school that mine did. I have been told that I am good at my job.

Having completed my qualifications I was asked to lecture (part time) on the MA.SEN Dyslexia modules for those specialising in dyslexia at my local University. I did this for several years and retired from that due to commitments to my elderly parents. Saying that my first love is to teach children.

I currently work as a specialist teacher supporting dyslexic children in primary and secondary schools. I also do give mainstream teachers INSET training and informal advice on how best to support dyslexic children.

As a parent I was just so grateful for the help I received, when I was trying to get help for my own children, I vowed I would do my best to repay their kindness by offering my help when ever I can.

Please be aware that any information I give on this website ( Both professionally or as a parent ) is always given in the spirit of trying to be helpful. I certainly don't know everything but I'll impart what I do know. :D
